BENITO RANGEL DE MARIA : (re) form
FEBRUARY 16 - APRIL 27, 2013
Monarch Contemporary is pleased to announce the exhibition, (re)form, by Benito Rangel de Maria.
Consisting of three stages, the (re)form Series demonstrates the evolution of a wire sculpture. In stage one, the sculpture is created and photographed from various perspectives. As the artist manipulates the sculpture's basic shape, it is gradually "re-formed," taking on a new identity.
In stage two, the sculpture is again "re-formed," but this time into a two dimensional print on watercolor paper. This printed edition is a black and white "rendering" that highlights the sculpture's structural purity.
In the third stage, the artist redefines the spaces within the already existing form. Here, the addition of unique color and markings done directly onto the printed works, re-forms the sculpture once again, resulting in a final and uniquely different identity.
